Last week, I had the absolute honor of being invited as a guest speaker by the team at Sekolah Seri Puteri for their "From Idea to AI" Digital Poster Workshop. Honestly? My mind is still a bit blown by the energy in that virtual room.
We had hundreds of students tuning in, not just from Malaysia, but internationally too! Seeing all those bright minds ready to dive into the world of AI was a serious vibe.
The "Visual Shout"
I started the session by keeping it real with them: A poster isn't a museum painting. It’s a Visual Shout. I told the students, "In the hallway, you have exactly 3 seconds before someone walks past your work to go to the canteen." We talked about how to win those three seconds using the "Hook, Message, and Action" strategy. If your poster doesn't 'scream' at people to stop, it’s just expensive wallpaper!
The AI Toolbox: My Digital "Krew"
The best part? Showing them how to stop being "passengers" and start being "Captains." We played around with some of my favorite AI tools:
Gemini: Our "Brain" for brainstorming those killer headlines.
Flow: The "Muscle" that turns words into 8k cinematic backgrounds in seconds.
Whisk: The "Stylist" that makes everything look like a Pixar movie or a cool retro sketch.
The "Captain vs. Co-Pilot" Talk
If there’s one thing I wanted them to take away, it’s this: AI is your Co-Pilot, but YOU are the Captain. I told them straight, don't let the AI do all the thinking. AI has the pixels, but you have the soul. We talked about the ethics of it all, like respecting other artists and making sure we aren’t just "lazy prompting." We want human-directed visions, not just random computer-generated noise.
Final Thoughts
A massive thank you to Sekolah Seri Puteri for having me. To all the students who joined—you guys are the real Art Directors of the future.
If you’re still sitting on the fence about using AI in your creative work, here’s your sign to start. Just remember: keep your hand on the steering wheel, keep your "shout" loud, and never let the machine take your creative spark.
